Power Attorney 2011: John Branca

The Hollywood Reporter posted their 5th annual Power Attorney list for 2011. Among the five categories, one of them is Talent attorneys. "Talent Dealmakers: Gross points, rich backends and franchise hunting: These attorneys for A-list stars keep them in the stratosphere."

John Branca has been honored as being named a Power Attorney for 2011. The Hollywood Reporter states that "As co-executor of the Michael Jackson estate, Branca controls a burgeoning empire that earned more than $275 million last year. That's more than all other dead celebrities -- including Elvis Presley, J.R.R. Tolkien and John Lennon -- combined. 'We've exceeded expectations on Michael,' he says. OFF-DUTY Branca says he wakes up each morning thinking about the UCLA Bruins." Equally as impressive, nine other attorneys from Branca's firm Ziffren Brittenham were named Power Attorneys for 2011. Also on the list under the category of litigation, Howard Weitzman was honored.

Of the five years that The Hollywood Reporter has named the top Power Attorneys, John Branca has been on the list every year. While some MJ fans may disagree with some of what John Branca has done in the past two years, I personally feel he has worked toward what Michael would have wanted for his legacy. Congratulations to John Branca and Howard Weitzman for their stellar work in their fields of law.

Vaccinate a Child in Michael Jackson's Honor

The actions of some of the charity groups who donate in Michael's honor never cease to amaze me. Like Dresses From Neverland, the group One Rose For Michael Jackson is among the groups who I truly feel capture Michael Jackson's belief that we must help the children of the world who are in need. The group's last charity project was donations of thousands of roses to commemorate the second anniversary of Michael's death at Forest Lawn (shown above). Their next project targets children who need vaccinations.
To celebrate what would have been his 53rd birthday, the group has decided organize a fundraiser to donate money to UNICEF in Michael Jackson's honor. Only $2 USD vaccinates a child against tetanus, measles and polio. TWO DOLLARS. Two dollars can actually save the life of a child.

The administrator of the group writes, "I know that many are tagged to start the project for Michael's birthday, and that is why I write this now. In less than two months Michael turns 53, and to honor him this year, we have together decided to help the children. Together we will ensure that as many children as possible in the countries that need our help, will be vaccinated against tetanus, measles and polio. These are vaccines that are vital in these parts of the world, and it is heartbreaking that there's not enough money to give all children a life free from these terrible, often fatal, diseases. If we can help we will do it, and we will do it now.

For 2 USD, you can vaccinate a child against all three diseases. 2 small dollars. I never thought about how little it cost to help. It takes really not much at all. There's probably not a single day of the week when I don't spend 2 dollars on something unnecessary. When I think of how many children my wasted money could save, I want to give everything I have. $10, that's what a meal at McDonalds costs. It is less than a movie ticket costs. And it can save the lives of five innocent children. No, now it's time we do something. Now it's time that we take up where Michael left and continue to fight for every kid. One by one, everyone."

As of today, July 11th, the group has already received enough donations to vaccinate 1300 children. Their goal is to vaccinate 5000 children in Michael Jackson's name. This is an incredible program that not only honors Michael, but saves the lives of children in need. Please consider donating to this worthy cause!

John Branca 101

Did you know?

1. John Branca did NOT own 5% of the ATV catalog. His firm, Ziffren, Brittenham LLP did.

Notice that this letter sent to Charles Koppelman, even AFTER Branca was no longer representing Michael, states "THIS FIRM'S INTEREST"?

In his rebuttal to the Wrap series done on him last year, Branca's attorney stated that "Branca's fee would have gone to his firm, not directly into his pocket." The letter above, seems to confirm what Branca claims.

2. Michael Jackson's Number Ones compilation album was released in November, 2003. On the inside slider, there is a special section, in which Michael states, "This album is dedicated to those who remember when and those who are still on the journey...John Branca, from the days of when to THE PRESENT...Thank you for the years. I love you, Michael Jackson." (He also thanks John McClain) Remember, this is late 2003, months after Branca was fired, yet he thanks Branca for his past, as well as his present service?



3. Juval Aviv, who runs Interfor, the corporate intelligence agency that Michael Jackson hired to investigate Tommy Mottola and John Branca, is also referred to as "Agent Schmuck". Although Aviv claims he was an assassin for the Israeli government, the Intelligence Committe of the State of Israel denies it.

"In fact, (a representative) added, the closest that Aviv ever came to intelligence work was as a security official for an El Al office in New York. 'His work in that capacity was terminated at the initiative of the employer because of unsuitability resulting from negative character traits,' (the rep) wrote. During the course of his work Yuval [sic] Aviv was found to be unreliable and dishonest."

While the Interfor report exonerated Branca, it is still important to note that the U.S. government states that Aviv is "full of shit."

As far as those that say, OK...maybe Branca did work for Jackson until 2006. However since he was fired in 2003, and asked to give back all copies of Jackson's documents, Branca is no longer the valid executor of the Estate. I say, how do they know that? Have they seen those documents?

There is simply no way for any person except those that are inextricably involved to state that John Branca is not the valid administrator of the Michael Jackson Estate. Unless they were in that courtroom, it's mere speculation. The difference between those who believe that Branca is the valid executor of the will, and those who don't, is that the L.A. judiciary backs Branca's claim.
